Texas country music coming to the Greene County Fair

Pat Waters and the Chainlink Band will provide grandstand entertainment at the Greene County Fair this Friday. Showtime is 7:30 pm; fireworks will follow the performance. There is no admission charge.

Waters will remind country music fans of George Strait, but with songs that are simple and “relatable” like Alan Jackson’s, according to www.patwaters.com “Pat with his infectious smile, dynamic audience connection, and his oh-so-smooth rangy baritone voice is someone you don’t want to miss in today’s country music scene,” the website states.

Waters earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing with a minor in international business from the University of North Texas. His dream was to be a professional athlete, but he knew would need to finish college to support a family. He also wanted to own his own business. According to the website bio, a few years after finishing college he and his uncle formed a partnership and they now own an oil field construction company and a trucking company. He didn’t start to play the guitar until after college.

He has released nine critically-acclaimed CDs, made Texas Music Charts, and had a #1 hit in the European market, earning him the Terry Award’s Male Vocalist of the Year Award in Texas. He has shared the stage with Merle Haggard, John Conlee, Johnny Bush, Gary Stewart, Keith Whitley, Gary P. Nunn and others.

Since 2001, Waters has been the a national spokesperson for America’s Drug Free Promotions, a 501(c)3, traveling to hundreds of schools throughout the Southwest, performing and visiting with youngsters about the dangers of illicit drugs, teen bullying, teen suicide and alcohol abuse. “Today’s students are our country’s future,” Waters said. “It is my aim to help steer them in the right direction using music, my own personal story and statistical facts.”

Grandstand entertainment Saturday will be a Pro Pulling League tractor and truck pull at 7 pm, and the Grand River Rodeo Sunday at 7 pm. There is an admission charge for the Saturday and Sunday shows.
